While still not overly aggressive in fighting marketers, Twitter has been getting smarter and I think it's just a matter of time before things start getting much tougher.

At any rate I think it would be helpful to have some discussion of what kinds of activities are getting people banned.

One that I know I've seen is that Twitter has caught on to the typical follower building pattern of:

1 - Mass follow the maximum allowed
2 - Wait 2-3 days for them to follow you back
3 - Mass unfollow

They're starting to flag accounts that are blatantly doing this for "unusual activity".  So I think it behooves us to begin varying our activity.

They're also flagging accounts that send a lot of links, particularly ones that are fairly new and built a large number of followers very quickly.

And I notice them getting flagged when they post links on a regularly set schedule, particularly if it's very frequent like every half hour.

At the moment it appears to be a manual process for them as there doesn't seem to be much consistency, but I'm guessing they'll figure a way to automate it at some point.

Let's help each pother avoid getting our accounts banned by developing some 'Best Practices'...What experience have you had with banned accounts?  What were you doing when it occurred in terms of following/unfollowing and tweeting?

One of my accounts got banned 6 days ago – it got suspended due to "suspicious activity". Fact is, i did not use any tools to grow my profile, I guess they didn't like the fact that I got many followers soon.

If you have problems with a suspended account be sure to write del@twitter.com. She's really helpful and will get you out of trouble (if you made only spam accounts she won't help you though).
Del responded to my request almost immediately, all other support requests did not get answered.
